Chris McDowell, UGA materials reuse coordinator who helped build many gardens, is moving on

One of the University of Georgia’s best local ambassadors is moving on.

Chris McDowell, materials reuse coordinator in UGA’s College of Environment and Design, will be heading west this summer after seven years in Athens.

UGA funding for the building materials reuse program he launched five years ago is ending, he said.

Old scraps get new life in the landscape

University of Georgia students are partnering with Chris McDowell, director of the UGA Material Reuse Program, to plan and build several new gardens for community organizations throughout Athens. The Material Reuse Program, a pilot project of the College of Environment and Design, salvages materials from construction and demolition projects and reclaims them for landscape projects.
